How it started.

Josh Rodriguez

  

My name is Josh Rodriguez, and I would like to share my life story and the birth of ADV Lawn. 

My goal with ADV Lawn is to provide the best customer service and performance in Greenville, SC. While we train our employees on the day to day. We use technology behind the scenes to provide that extra quality.

Early Days 

My story begins in senior year of high school. While I was in school, I need a way to make extra cash. While I was working at Moe’s Southwest Grill, I asked my dad if I could borrow is truck and trailer on the weekends so I can start mowing lawns. Every Saturday morning, my younger brothers and I would load up the equipment and grab some business cards to hand them out to every person we meet. At this point in my journey, I did not know much about the inside and out on how to properly run a lawn care company. We just wanted weekend money. 

Lawn care or Restaurant?

My family (dads’ side) come from a line of successful Mexican restaurants. Since I was 15 years old, I began working at Moe’s and later at one of my aunt’s restaurants. Growing up I would peek in the kitchen and was enamored by how the restaurant world operated. Surrounded by my uncles and aunt’s success I was set to save as much as I could and open a restaurant one day. Of course, that’s not what happened…

First Business (Failed)

Despite a childhood dream of becoming a restaurateur. I realized at age 19, I simply did not have enough money. Despite save all I could. 

At this stage of my journey, I was working at Moe’s south west grill, my aunt’s restaurant, steak house, delta airlines, FedEx in the winter, and lawn care on the weekends. I do not recommend working as much as I did. If I could go back in time, I would have had two jobs and lawn care on the side. But being a hardheaded 19-year-old, I decided I need one more venture in my life. Something I could build on my days off. E-commerce, I decided to take a jab at the internet. I made a website dedicated to sell the best travel gear in the US. I communicated with a supplier in China, and it was off to the races. Let’s just say that I had no experience on running an internet business. So, after spending $4,000.00 on this venture I decided to close it down. 

Turning Point 

a year later I was sitting in the back of my collage class contemplating on what should I do? I did not have the passion some of my peers had with there careers. I wanted to build something. Then it hit me, I have always had a side hustle. It was lawn care. I read articles of different entrepreneurs running there lawncare business, watch YouTube on lawncare, etc. I consumed anything and everything lawncare related. That same year I decided to drop out and quit my jobs and try this out. I was in for a learning curve and self-growth in my business career. 

Building ADV LAWN 

Not long after dropping out, I wanted to build the best lawn care company in my area. My first year was overwhelming, disappointing, and made little profit. My motivation was at its breaking point. This was going to take a lot out of me for it to become a well-run machine. Second year, I restructure everything in my business and started from scratch. Third year, I implemented system on the field and in the office, to have a smoother operation. 

Now we are in our fifth year. And guess what? We still have a lot to learn. But I have to say that implementing systems around my business was the best decision I have made. It takes the stress of the owner and clients. 

A Company & Vision

My goal with ADV Lawn is to provide the best customer service and performance in Greenville, SC. While we train our employees on the day to day. We use technology behind the scenes to provide that extra quality.

Today I run a Facebook page and YouTube channel helping Spanish speaking lawn care professional implement system for there business. 

Unfinished Business

It has been one heck of a ride, but I’ve only just started.
